Youth Activities
We are excited to host the Southwest District career development events in Cortez. We hope
everyone will be able to participate.  We hope to provide the best contest available to our
student's. Our goal is to prepare them for State contests.  Most of our animals will come from
our local area with the exception of our exceptional market hogs from Texas.

CONTESTS
Livestock Judging
      10 classes; both breeding & market swine, beef & sheep
Horse Judging
      4-5 classes and 2 reason classes; performance & halter
Meats Judging
Floral Design
Ag Mechanics
Ag Business Management
Crop Judging
Barnyard Wars - Just for fun!!
      6 Teams of 5 students, 90 minute time limit, Entry fee $25

AWARDS!
Team and individuals will be scored on a point basis, 4-H & FFA will be scored separately
and will be ranked as follows:
         Top 15% - Blue
         Next 5% - Red
         Next 15% - White

FEES
Registration fees go to: Ag mechanics materials, belt buckles for the top individuals,
awards for 2nd and 3rd places in each contest and team plaques for the top 3 teams.

  • Ag Mechanics                                               $15 per student
  • Livestock Judging                                       $15 per student
  • Horse Judging                                             $15 per student
  • Meat Evaluation & ID                                   $15 per student
  • Floral Design                                                $15 per student

All contests will require a minimum of 3 teams.
Lunch is not included with the Ag Business Management & Field Crop Contest.

Education teachers may be asked to help with the tabulation of scores and a few other tasks.

All students wearing their FFA jackets will be admitted free to the Four
States Ag Expo. ($3 entry fee 16 and over)
